The Air Jordan 16 (XVI) Retro – Countdown Package 7 / 16 (Black / Varsity Red) were released on June 21, 2008 and retailed for $310 along with the Air Jordan 7 (VII) Retro – Hare Jordan (Countdown Package 7 / 16). These were the first colorway tho ever release in the Air Jordan 16 (XVI) model, and are truly adored by fanatics. Like the originals, they feature an all black leather upper with a patent leather toe, as well as red accents, and a clear outsole. The only thing wrong with the Air Jordan 16 (XVI) is that they do not have great traction, as there is not enough rubber on the bottom. This specific colorway features a black leather shroud which hides the lacing system, and gives the shoe a more casual look, which is an added bonus. Features of the shoe include a hidden quick lace system, carbon fibre sheath, patent leather, Zoom Air insoles, and a Jordan shroud, which is a covering for the laces, made from full grain leather.

The Air Jordan XVI (16) was released in 2001 and designed by Nike's Senior Footwear Designer Wilson Smith. It was meaning that it was the first design since the Air Jordan 3 (III) that Tinker Hatfield wasn’t behind. It was said that Hatfield had moved up and left Smith with the hard task in creating a revolutionary new design. Smith decided to bring in a few design elements/fabrics from earlier releases. For example we saw the return of the clear rubber sole (V, VI, XI) and they also featured patent leather (XI). But he XVI's is uniqur for the brand new gaiter/shroud that covered the shoe and which could be removed to give the shoe a brand new look. The shoes has not only stylish purpose, but also a thermal functionality. It was not a good idea to play basketball wearing the shoes for the shoes was a little stiff and to wear the shroud/gaiter,as it pretty easily could fall off. It was very very easily got creased and cracked for the black/red and white/mn navy both featured patent leather. It was no doubt that Nike/JB would continue to release Air Jordan’s by the success of the XV's.Jordan 16 (XVI)s were the next shoe to hit the shelves. The whole design was great. It's glad to see a new designer put his foot forward.I hope we'll see Wilson Smith involved in the design of future work.
